Minister for Road Transport and bridges Obaidul Quader today said social media Facebook, Viber and Whateapps have been closed temporality in the interest of national security.
"Those would be reopened in due time," he said while exchanging views with journalists at Sylhet circuit house, BSS reports.
The minister said the government of Sheikh Hasina has ensured free flow of information technology in the country.
"We do not want to gag the popular social media. The present government believes in people's freedom of speech and democracy and it has guaranteed that," he added.
Obaidul Quader said huge rainfall in the last monsoon damaged the country's roads heavily.
He said the development of road communication is being delayed because of stone crisis.
Referring to sources of stone in Bholaganj and Jaflong in Sylhet, the minister sought cooperation of political leaders, public representatives and journalists for smooth supply of stones and import of limestone through Tamabil and other border points.
He said the development of roads is essential for four-country connectivity. Currently, the roads are not fit for connectivity, he added.
The minister said the government is taking all measures to resolve stone crisis.
