At least 700 telephones in several areas in Dhaka have gone dead after a fire caused by electric short-circuit gutted a telephone exchange cabinet.
The areas where people are unable to use telephones include Paribagh, Motalib Plaza, Nahar Plaza and Sonargaon Road.
Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited in a media statement on Wednesday said about 700 telephones became inactive after the fire destroyed the BTCL cabinet near Motalib Plaza at Hatirpool around 6am on Wednesday. It said the BTCL technical team was working to repair that cabinet. The telephone lines would be reactivated in the next five or six days, it added.
