Students of Jahangirnagar University formed a human chain on the campus on Thursday demanding reopening of all social media including facebook.
Around 50 students, under the banner of Students of Jahangirnagar University, began the demonstration at about 12:00pm in front of the university’s Saheed Minar.
Extending support to the students’ movement, philosophy department Assistant Professor Sayed Nizar Alam said, ‘Facebook is a way to practice the freedom of speech; so, the government should reopen it immediately.’
The protestors said the government should remember that the Ganajagaran Mancha was the outcome of social media.
They urged the government to reopen all social media and abolish the laws which hampered the freedom of expression of the mass people.
On November 18, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Authorities blocked Facebook, Messenger, Viber and WhatsApp in the country in a bid to ensure public safety.
