Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) has opened internet structured networking (Broad Brand) and Wi-Fi both inside and outside of its own building aims at encouraging people’s involvement in information technology besides expediting its online civic services. The city corporation launched the modern communication system with the main thrust of bringing dynamism in its service- delivery process through replacing the existing manual activities into digital system in phases. From now on, the city dwellers particularly the students can use internet facilities free of cost through using the zone. On the occasion, the RCC organised a function on its premises Sunday with participation of ward councillors, officials concerned and other stakeholders. Former Mayor of RCC AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and present Mayor-in-Charge Nizam-Ul Azim attended and addressed the opening session as chief and special guests respectively with Ward Councillor Shahjahan Ali in the chair. Chief Executive Officer Ajahar Ali, Secretary Syeda Zebinnissa Sultana and Chief Engineer Ashraful Haque also spoke. Chief guest Mr Liton said the WIFI zone has been launched aimed at enriching the officials and others concerned with more ICT and educational facilities to supplement the government efforts for building Digital Bangladesh. He said, “We want to inform the web portal and different other international organisations that we are putting in our level best effort to uplifting the city’s socio-economic condition through enriching the ICT sector.” Speaking on the occasion Nizam-Ul Azim said similar zone will be opened in more other places including the dense- populated areas with high-speed internet in near future. He urged the people especially the youths to avail the free of cost internet facilities for contributing to the city’s living and livelihood condition, according to a news agency.
