Allegation of illegal use of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) in telephony services has been raised against Aamra Technologies, a local connectivity provider. The company is using eight Giga Byte (GB) of bandwidth capacity, which can be used to transmit voice calls for 10 million minutes. "Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) issued notices to the company several times but it did not comply. Besides, the BTRC instructed Aamra to appear before it to furnish necessary information but the service provider ignored the directive most audaciously," said an official of the BTRC. State Minister for Post and Telecommunications Tarana Halim said there is no concession for the VoIP businessmen. We will take necessary steps against them, if Aamra is found guilty of committing the crime it will be punished. A BTRC official said, "We wrote to Aamra on September 19 seeking explanation on eight points but it did not respond yet. Moreover, it did not submit the monthly data to the telecom regulator." Senior Assistant Director (Engineering and Operation) of BTRC Nahidul Hasan said in the letter, the data which Aamra submitted is not satisfactory. The company is delaying to submit monthly data about bandwidth use. The BTRC reviews the monthly data of internet service providers to ensure government revenue. As per the letter there are some irregularities in the data submitted by Aamra. The data which it submitted in the International Internet Gateway (IIG) on July 7 and July 21 are also not satisfactory. Aamra did not submit client's data to the BTRC. Besides, the BTRC has scrutinized the data where Aamra did not inform about upstream 8 GB bandwidth. The organization submitted wrong information about Multi Router Traffic Grapher (MRTG). The data does not match with client's information and MRTG. Additionally, Aamra does not submit the monthly report, which is mandatory, and is also regularly missing the date of submission of the same, said the BTRC official.
